Open Call for Art Submissions:

"Forever Fearless" Statue Concepts

About the Call

We invite artists to submit innovative statue concepts for an exhibit dedicated to celebrating activism, democracy, and fearless leadership. This is a unique opportunity to have your work featured in a national campaign, empowering communities through public art. The exhibit will be featured locally, regionally, and nationally, and will be used for fundraising.

We Will Provide:

  • Life-sized custom mannequin (in 1 of 3 poses – both hands on hips, 1 hand on hips & 1 hand up, both hands up).

  • Basic materials: 40 lbs of Apoxie sculpt to use to build onto the statue base and a UV sealant to protect the finished statue.

Logistics:

  • Selected artists can choose to work from VFYD studio space in Washington DC, pick up their statue from Washington DC and work in their own space, or arrange to have their statue delivered.

  • Once statue is complete, artists are responsible for organizing delivery or pick up in coordination with the VFYD team.

Final sculptures:

  • The placement of statues within various exhibits will depend on their durability.

  • Many decorative materials, such as beads, feathers, or collage, might not be appropriate on their own, but so long as they are permanently adhered and properly sealed, they are approved to use.

  • We encourage a hard finish for sculptures to be best suited for significant travel, and encourage sealing your sculpture with the provided sealant.

  • Waterproof and freeze/thaw stable are important for statues potentially placed in outdoor exhibits.

  • Exterior-ready statues can travel & be part of outdoor exhibits; interior ones are more likely to be placed in local exhibits with more of a decorative or fundraising focus.

  • Please follow rules for permitted shippable goods with Fedex ground
