Balance Disregarded by Trap Bob

“Balance Disregarded” utilizes the recognizable figure of the Roman Goddess Justitia and urges the audience to question if balance is enough. For so long, we have fought for equality and equilibrium, but what if that distracts from our truth? Do we always need to highlight the "oppressor" in our call to justice? When do we stand alone in our fight, representing ourselves, without justifying what we deserve based on those who put us down? Yes, Themis carries her scales, but she is also blindfolded, which for me has always represented a sense of disregard. The idea of “balance” can also be seen as a tool to create comfort for the oppressor, rather than focusing on the justice rightfully owed to the oppressed. These new works represent the power of representation and symbolism in the fight for our future. The foundation of my practice revolves around the idea that "art will save the world", and that is because of the power it holds.
